Strengthening the Foundation: Board of Directors Training

Beneath the tranquil canopy of the Aqua Pearl Lake Resort, the Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa gathered on August 31, 2025, for a day dedicated to the dual pursuit of leadership excellence and fraternal bonding. As the morning sun glistened over the water, thirteen members of the Board of Directors arrived at 8:30 am, greeted with refreshing welcome drinks that signaled the start of a transformative journey. The air was thick with a sense of purpose, marking the transition from individual leaders into a unified force ready to navigate the RI Year 2025–26.

The intellectual heart of the day unfolded during the formal training sessions, led by the insightful Rtr. Himantha Alahakoon and Rtr. Anju Cheran. From 9:30 am until noon, the board delved into the storied legacy of the club, revisiting the milestones of our history to draw inspiration for the future. The discussions were both reflective and forward-looking, covering the evolution of our Signature Projects and providing a granular roadmap for each avenue of service. Through expert instructions and collaborative suggestions, the directors were equipped with the strategic clarity necessary to uphold the high standards of the Alumni of University of Moratuwa.

As the morning’s rigorous focus gave way to the warmth of the afternoon sun, the atmosphere shifted from the boardroom to the spirit of fellowship. Following a shared lunch, the afternoon was defined by laughter and recreation. The rhythmic shuttlecock of badminton matches and the cool, revitalizing waters of the swimming pool provided the perfect setting for team building outside the constraints of formal agendas. These moments of leisure were not merely a pause from work, but a vital strengthening of the personal ties that form the backbone of any successful leadership team.

The day reached its gentle conclusion over evening tea and snacks, allowing for quiet reflection on the day’s lessons before the 4:00 pm checkout. This training retreat was more than a technical requirement; it was a soulful preparation for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. Rejuvenated by the serenity of the lake and empowered by collective wisdom, the Board of Directors departed with a renewed commitment to service, carrying with them the shared vision of a year defined by impact, unity, and excellence.
